Booting via USB Interface
Modern computers are supporting increasingly booting via USB interface. For this application OmniDrive USB Professional is a perfect solution: Operating systems like Linux can boot directly from the PC Card.
OmniDrive USB Professional is a flexible and robust alternative towards mechanical hard disks. Removable PC Cards offer significant time and cost reduction for service. A suitable memory media is the ATA Flash Memory Card, e.g. from SanDisk, which is available with a capacity up to 2 GByte.
Software Update with OmniDrive USB
For computers with a Windows operating system (e.g. XP, 2000, NT, etc.) on a built-in disk, OmniDrive USB Professional is an ideal drive to copy the content of complete partitions.
OmniDrive USB Professional allows to boot from a PC Card, on
which Linux is preinstalled and on which an image of the target
partition is located. Then the image file is copied under Linux onto the
disk of the built-in target system.
OmniDrive USB Professional
OmniDrive USB Professional is based on a flexible CSM own design which is aligned with special industrial requirements. For OmniDrive USB Professional this means in detail:
- Extreme functional and data security, longstanding experience with PC Card Drives
- Flexibility and protection of investment by easy update possibility
- Long-term availability
- Option: Temperature range - 40 °C to + 85 °C
OmniDrive USB Professional allows cable lengths of 2m and more. Hence it is ideal suitable for installation in terminals seperated from the PC. The USB cable can be connected directly to the USB port aon the main board of the computer.
OmniDrive USB Professional is available alternatively for ATA Flash Cards and CompactFlash Cards, also on demand in an external aluminum housing with front cover. Further information you can receive from our technical sales.
With OmniDrive, CSM GmbH offers an external PC Card Drive for easy backup and restoration of complete Windows installations on Flash cards. For this standard software can be used, e.g. PowerQuest's DriveImage or Symantec's Norton Ghost.
Application areas
With OmniDrive the complete content of a hard disk or partition can be stored as an image-file and restored at any time, e.g. after installation of a new hard disk.
With this, OmniDrive is a technical improved alternative to CD burners or to Iomega's Jaz-Drive, that is end-of-life.
This is advantageous for all applications, where a data backup via network is not possible or very complicated, e.g.:
- notebooks
- mobile industrial computers
- stand-alone computers
Data transfer
For a backup, the OmniDrive is connected to the printer interface. Special precautions guarantee an outstanding data security. In addition the continuous check sum control during the data transfer guarantees the data integrity.
Storage media
As storage media CompactFlash Cards with adapter or ATA Flash Cards are used, which are available up to a capacity of 2 GByte. Flash Cards are very robust and rewritable more than 2,000,000 times. They stand out by a long lifetime and a good price-performance-ratio. All common capacities are available at CSM.
Standard software
For the backup standard software can be used, e.g. PowerQuest's Drive Image or Symantec's Norton Ghost. For this the OmniDrive DOS driver software can be copied e.g. on a boot disk, which can be made with these programs. Thereby the backup of hard disk partitions is universal possible for installations under DOS, Windows 95/98/ME, NT, 2000, XP and other operating systems.
Instructions
A zip-file with detailed instruction as PDF and the necessary files for use of OmniDrive with Drive Image or Norton Ghost you can download > HERE.
